WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

6th July 2017

Let’s face it, a couple should be pretty happy on their wedding day, especially once all the ‘getting-ready-and-down-the-aisle-on-time’ stress has dissolved. There is a real skill in being able to harness and use the loved up and happy energy couples bring to create natural and romantic wedding photographs and it’s a skill that goes beyond simply knowing how to use a camera and compose a creative photo.

There are a few extra things we do that are key to maintaining the good vibes on a wedding day. A good attitude is just as important as good photographs and here is what you should expect and look for when hiring a wedding photographer:

They bring good energy

To maintain happy energy, we as a team have to bring happy energy. If we are flat and dull, our couples will sense and react to that, so we stay upbeat with a ‘can-do-it’ attitude. If things aren’t going to plan, we find a solution without stressing out our couples. Sometimes it rains, sometimes wedding cars are delayed, but we keep rolling with a smile on our faces and make it all happen.

They make it fun

We work hard to keep the mood light and fun on a shoot and we enjoy having a laugh with our bridal parties – after all, a wedding day is a celebration and a shoot should not feel like hard work. If time permits, we suggest going to a bar on location so our bride and groom can kick back and enjoy a moment with their bridal party while we continue with candid shots. We make the day all about the couple.

They give direction

Our couples look to us to give direction and to use our expertise to position them in a way that is flattering and looks good in their wedding photos. That being said, we don’t over direct our couples or suggest poses that feel awkward or forced, or that are just unnatural. Rather, we get couples to do simple things that look intimate and romantic like walk hand in hand, or fix a bow tie – this is a good way to distract them from being in front of the camera as well.

They are non-intrusive

In reality, we’re often standing only meters away from our couples during a shoot but a key element to our wedding photography style is making it look as though our couple are enjoying a moment to themselves. We like to give our couples a sense of space and privacy during their photo shoot. While we do take tight shots, we like using a longer lens to give some distance between us and our couples so that they don’t notice we are there. We’ll also ask a groom to whisper something special to his bride and it’s a way to create intimacy and give the bride and groom a nice moment between themselves.

They keep you comfortable

Usually our location shoots run for around 45 minutes to an hour because we know bridal parties lose energy, dresses are heavy, high heels hurt after a while and if it isn’t comfortable, it’s not going to look any more comfortable in photographs. We work quickly and efficiently to get it all captured as painlessly as possible. Our couples are not working for us – rather we’re working for our couples and to give them the best experience possible. It’s why we wont make our couples do things that will feel horrible, like walk through mud, in pouring rain, or in direct sun on a 35-degree day simply for the sake of getting a shot we want to get. We’d rather come up with a creative solution that gets the amazing shot we want but that also keeps our couples and bridal party as comfortable as possible.

They earn and keep your trust

The final thing is trust and that comes from being professional, reliable and ensuring our clients are relaxed and confident in us. This extends well before the wedding day and starts from the first moment you deal with us. We want our clients to continue to see our work, love what we do and get excited to work with us. On the wedding day, we want them to know that we’re there for them and willing to do everything we can to get them amazing photos.

If you want to see more of what it’s like to work with us, we feature live weddings on Snapchat and Instagram stories on our Instagram page. You can also follow our Youtube channel to see past weddings in action.
