“Well, there’s seven billion people in the world – I’m glad I found you”

Nikola + Lauren were a match made online! They got to know each other for six weeks before they met for their first date in Sydney in October 2020. It was obvious they were meant to be, and one year later, they were engaged! Here’s how it went down:

“I (Lauren) arrived at Nik’s place on a Saturday morning as per usual. The last of the COVID lockdowns had just finished and we had talked about going to the Wollongong Botanic Gardens once the world was returning back to normal. It was a beautiful day, so Nik suggested we go! All was as normal when I showed up, his parents were going about their usual things. Nik was not nervous or weird AT ALL, he totally kept his cool the entire time.
We walked around the Botanic Gardens for about an hour (the whole time, Nik was looking for a more private section of the Gardens to pop the question). He wove getting married into the conversation (which we talked about so often so I didn’t think anything of it). I was walking a couple of steps in front of him, and when I turned around he was on one knee. He spoke some absolutely beautiful words before asking me to marry him! After a few shocked seconds, I said YES and proceeded to cry for literally, the next hour!
After lots of hugs and kisses,  we walked back to the car and FaceTimed my parents in Sydney (who were
excitedly waiting for the call). We all cried. We then drove back to Nik’s parents place in Wollongong and they were prepared! We were congratulated and toasted with his parents and brother, and I was still in shock. We then drove to my parents place in Sydney and were also congratulated and toasted with my parents, brother and grandparents. It was the most wonderful and memorable day!”
One of the special details was Lauren’s bespoke engagement ring. Lauren’s father is a jeweller and Nik secretly worked on designing the ring without Lauren finding out. Lauren says, “The day we got engaged, Nik told me about all of their sneaky planning! My engagement ring is so special to me!”

Nikola + Lauren exchanged their vows at St John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox Church in Penrose. They were already anticipating this would be the most special and meaningful part of the day and it truly was.  Following the ceremony, we went on a location shoot around Glennifer Brae in Wollongong before celebrating their Wollongong wedding reception at Novotel Northbeach Wollongong.

Nikola + Lauren partied the night away with their nearest and dearest, combining Macedonian and Serbian traditions and dance.
